Committee Interest Application

Please review the work each committee does and then let us know the committee(s) on which you might be interested in serving. If you have previously served on a committee, you still need to complete the form to indicate continued interest.

Constitution & Bylaws Committee
The Constitution & Bylaws Committee is one of the committees designated by the Education Minnesota Constitution and Bylaws (C&B) to facilitate the work of the Representative Convention. The authority to amend the C&B lies solely with the Representative Convention (RC). However, before the proposed amendments are distributed to the delegates, the committee’s responsibility is to read and examine all proposed amendments submitted by members and to prepare impact statements for the delegates. The committee is also charged with reviewing the C&B annually to determine whether it should recommend any amendments (updates, revisions, deletions, or additions) to the RC. Appointment to the committee is annual.

Council of Local Presidents
The members of this committee work directly with the Education Minnesota President to communicate local and regional concerns and to provide timely information to other local presidents within their election district; identify local issues and needs; advise the President on local and regional matters; serve as a liaison between Education Minnesota and local presidents; and to review organizational policies as they impact locals and members; recommend local leadership training needs; advise on issues related to collective bargaining, contracts and organizing, meet as subcommittees as needed. Appointment to the committee is for two years.

Credentials Committee
The charge of the Credentials Committee is to ensure that all seated delegates at the Representative Convention (RC) are duly elected by their locals. During the convention, the committee’s role is to report to the convention the count of delegates who have checked in at the commencement of the RC, as well as to make a recommendation regarding the seating of any late registrants. Finally, the Committee is responsible for reporting to the convention the number of registrants who have checked in by 10:00 a.m. Appointment to the committee is annual.

Elections Committee
The purpose of the Elections Committee is to enforce the EdMN Elections Rules, assure the fair and equitable treatment of all candidates and to provide an orderly and fair procedure for all candidates. The committee conducts the elections at the Representative Convention, prepares and checks ballot(s) for accuracy, supervises the voting area, acts as judge and constable of the election(s), and performs other appropriate duties. Appointment to the committee is for two years. In 2025-26, the committee will explore and make recommendations for the use of online elections.

ESP Pension Advisory Group (ESP PAG)
This group of Education Support Professionals will work in union to develop and recommend an action plan for advocacy and improvements for the Public Employee Retirement Association (PERA). The group will report to the Education Minnesota governing board and Education Minnesota officers. Appointment to this group will be for one year.

Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee (EMAC)
The constitutional charge of this committee is to advise the Human Rights committee on ethnic minority issues in Education Minnesota and in our schools. The committee should review the organization’s AIP on an ongoing basis and serve as the member group to oversee the progress of the governing board’s priority of racial equity and social justice.  Appointment to the committee is for two years.

Health Care Task Force
This task force will continue to oversee the priority of achieving a statewide health insurance plan for all educators. Appointment to this task force is a one-year commitment.

Legislative Action Committee
The charge of this committee is to consider and recommend legislative positions to the elected officers and leaders in Education Minnesota.  The committee shall develop recommendations regarding issues and agencies external to Education Minnesota as well as recommend changes or additions to Education Minnesota’s legislative positions.  The committee shall work to engage and mobilize members in advocating for Education Minnesota’s legislative positions. The committee may recommend task forces and ad hoc committees for additional study as needed. Appointment to the committee is for two years. 

Member Pension Investments Task Force
The charge of this task force will be to act on Action Item #13 that passed the 2025 Representative Convention. The task force will investigate the investments of member pensions in violation of things such as human and civil liberties and involvement in activities such as illegal occupation, war and military conflicts, and publish and report their findings to Education Minnesota members. Appointment to this task force will be no longer than a year.

Organizing for Settlement Fund (OFS)
The purpose of the OFS Committee is to oversee the Organizing for Settlement Fund, which supports locals around organizing and contract settlement. Most of this committee’s work is done by email or virtual meetings. Appointment to the committee is for two years. 

Political Action Committee (PAC)
The charge of this committee is to educate, support and strengthen the commitment of the citizens and the government to excellence in public education at all levels; to promote and strive for improvement of the public schools; to encourage educators to know and understand the nature and actions of their government and the important political issues as they pertain to public education; and to elect candidates who support the mission of Education Minnesota. Appointment to the committee is for two years.

Professional Advocacy (ProAC)
The charge of this committee is to consider and recommend policies and programs to the elected officers and other leaders regarding matters pertinent to the professional lives of members and identify and recommend policy on new trends in education; identify and recommend areas of need for professional growth opportunities for members and recommend topics for further study within the organization. Appointment to the committee is for two years. In 2025-26, the committee will continue to discuss and make recommendations around workplace safety.

PSEO Task Force
This task force will act on Action Item #11 that passed the 2025 Representative Convention. Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO), concurrent enrollment and post-secondary online courses will be discussed. The task force will be made up of members in E-12 and in higher education. Appointment to this task force will be for one year.

RC Rules Committee
The Rules Committee reviews and makes recommendations for changes to the Rules which govern the Representative Convention. Appointment to the committee is annual. In 2025-26, the committee will discuss Action Item #8 from the 2025 Representative Convention.
