State reports first student death, fourth and fifth school staff deaths, from COVID-19 this school year

School leaders around the state must do more to protect students and staff from the dangerous delta variant of the coronavirus, Education Minnesota said Thursday after the state health department reported the first death of a student from COVID-19 this school year and two more staff deaths.

State reports 11th death of school staff member from COVID-19

Education Minnesota repeated its call for educators and other adults in the school community to keep themselves and their students safe after the Minnesota Department of Health reported the third death of a school staff member in the current school year. Eleven school staff members have now died of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
