ST. PAUL, Minnesota. Feb. 14, 2024 – Education Minnesota has endorsed the reelection campaigns of U.S. Reps. Angie Craig, Betty McCollum and Ilhan Omar in the first round of 2024 federal endorsements by Minnesota’s largest labor union.

Educators from the candidates’ districts interviewed the candidates during the endorsement process. Their recommendations were approved by the political action committees of the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association.

Additional endorsements for federal races will be announced later this spring.

Education Minnesota President Denise Specht said of Rep. Angie Craig:
“Angie is the wife of an educator, the daughter of a teacher and the mother of four children. She brings those experiences with her to Congress. Her commitment to the education of students with special needs is unmatched. Education Minnesota is proud to endorse Angie Craig because she shares our commitment to making sure every Minnesota student gets the resources and support they need to succeed in school and after graduation, no matter what they look like, how they learn or who they love.”

Specht said of Rep. Betty McCollum:
“Education Minnesota is proud to endorse Betty McCollum, who has been a champion for Minnesota in Congress for more than 20 years. Her commitment to making the federal government live up to its commitment to fund the the Individuals with Disability Act is shared by every educator in every district that’s struggling to meet the educational needs of its students.”

Specht said of Rep. Ilhan Omar:
“Ilhan Omar believes in the promise of public education as we do; it’s a path to greater opportunity, economic security and a thriving state for every Minnesotan – no exceptions. Our union continues to endorse her education and labor agendas. Her commitment to rebuilding crumbling schools, expanding broadband, providing affordable, high-quality child care and increasing access to tuition-free higher education is welcomed by educators in her district and throughout Minnesota.
