May Day Events

International Worker’s Day (aka May Day) is just around the corner and it will be a day of rallies, marches, teach-ins, walkouts and many other actions all across the country. We have seen time and again that when workers and communities organize, care for each other and apply collective pressure together, we can win on anything.

  It is a professional development day in District 196.  All teachers will participate in professional learning at Eagan High School in the morning.  DCUE will ask all members to wear their DCUE swag to the training and our Executive Board members will be handing our drinks, snacks, and pamphlet explaining the history of May Day in the United States to all teachers as they enter the high school!

  The May Day curriculum provided by EdMN has been shared with members, and educators are encouraged to incorporate it into their classrooms on May 1st. EMDGF members will wear blue or EMDGF (local union) apparel as a visible sign of unity.

  Gathering for rally to begin no earlier than 3:30pm. People can park in the Roseville Area High School and join in the call and response/chants. Rally begins at 4:00pm either in the parking lot of Grace Church or on the green area between the church and the school. March will take place from 4:15-5:15pm.
  – Start from Grace Church/Roseville Area High School to corner of Hamline Ave and Cty Rd B2. Head WEST on Hamline to Cty Rd B.
  – From the corner of Hamline and Cty Rd B, head WEST on Cty Rd B to Lexington Ave. 
  – From the corner of Lexington Ave and Cty Rd B, head NORTH on Lexington Ave. 
  – From the corner of Lexington Ave and Cty Rd B2, head EAST back to Roseville Area High School and Grace Church.
  TEACHERS: We will work our Contract Hours on May 1st. and do a “TEACH IN” You are encouraged to “walk-in” when your duty day begins and “walk-out” when your duty day ends. Come join in the May Day Rally as soon as you are finished with your duty day!

  SPFE members are encouraged to participate in this Civic Day of Action at the level in which they feel comfortable. Some will call in sick, some will boycott shopping, some will participate in the march at 4:30 PM on Lake Street in Minneapolis. Some may do multiple things. For those choosing to stay at work, we are sharing the May Day Teaching resources and encouraging everyone do use some aspect to educate our students. Educators will also be encouraged to wear SPFE gear and take pictures wearing the stickers we are having printed.
