Retiring educators can maximize their union experience with Education Minnesota Retired Continuous MembershipÂ

Did you know that membership in Education Minnesota doesn’t end when we leave the classroom? Educators who have moved into retirement are eligible to join Education Minnesota Retired. The benefits of staying involved will enrich your years of retirement, keeping you informed and engaged about issues that affect retirees and provide opportunities to make your voice heard on pensions, healthcare and Social Security. Plus, members who decide to substitute teach after retirement are still covered under the same liability insurance policy as when they were an active educator.
Education Minnesota Retired members also retain full access to NEA Member Benefits and AFT+ Member Benefits—that includes your insurance policies, exclusive travel discounts, shopping perks and the NEA Vacations program.
Joining Education Minnesota Retired is easier than ever with continuous membership! This program, established in 2015, allows current Education Minnesota members to sign up to join EM Retired the year they plan to retire so that their membership seamlessly transitions from Education Minnesota to EM Retired.
Signing up for continuous membership takes two minutes and can be done online!
You may qualify for continuous membership as a member of Education Minnesota Retired at no additional cost to you if you:
• Are 55 years of age or older.
• Retired after Sept. 1, 2015.
• Have been a member for at least 10 years.
• Were an active member in good standing at the time of retirement.
• Qualify for a public pension.
