ST. PAUL, Minnesota, Sept. 16, 2025 – Education Minnesota welcomed the announcement by Gov. Tim Walz that he would seek reelection in 2026, union president Monica Byron said Tuesday.
“Gov. Walz has been a steady supporter of educators and students through some of the most difficult years of our careers,” she said. “Even through a pandemic, gun violence and culture war attacks on vulnerable students, Walz has been a trustworthy ally and good friend to educators. He has provided the largest funding increases in a generation, pushed through teacher pension reform and protected students from the worst of the MAGA agenda. Minnesota will need more of that sturdy resolve as the chaos keeps coming from Washington. We’re eager to hear the governor’s vision for the next four years.”
Education Minnesota’s endorsement process for governor and other constitutional officers will begin in October with a candidate questionnaire developed by educators throughout Minnesota. The open, democratic process will culminate with an endorsement announcement at the union’s state political conference at the end of January.
