ST. PAUL, Minn. May 12, 2017 – Gov. Mark Dayton rejected on Friday the inadequate education funding bill passed by the Minnesota House and Senate, saying it, “falls far short in delivering the public investment in education that will ensure our children the ability to achieve their full potential.”

In response, Education Minnesota President Denise Specht released the following statement.

“This budget shows that when it came time for Republicans in the Legislature to decide between Minnesota students and corporate tax breaks, the students lost. It wasn’t even close,” Specht said. “The basic formula lags inflation, special education costs will consume a larger share of school budgets and thousands of families who need high-quality pre-K won’t get it. The governor did the right thing for Minnesota by vetoing this bill.”
