ST. PAUL, Minn., May 19, 2015 –Education Minnesota President Denise Specht released the following statement Tuesday in response to Gov. Dayton’s announcement that he would veto the education finance bill and call a special session.
“We will work with lawmakers and the governor to craft a new education funding bill that increases access to preschool taught by licensed educators and includes additional investments in the academic success of students from kindergarten through high school,” Specht said.
“However, it’s clear the way forward starts with the House majority. It must reconsider its priorities, put 4-year-olds before future tax cuts and commit a slice of the remaining $1 billion budget surplus to schools,” Specht said. “That’s how a new deal for kids begins.”
