ST. PAUL, Minn., April 9, 2015 – Education Minnesota President Denise Specht released the following statement Thursday evening in reaction to Gov. Mark Dayton’s State of the State speech.
“Gov. Mark Dayton is clearing the road to opportunity for a generation of Minnesota students,” Specht said. “He plainly wants to remove the financial obstacles between the children of working families and a great education at a time when those hurdles are growing higher in other states.”
“His goal is years away, but the governor has shown courage by pursuing it instead of short-term gain,” Specht said. “We encourage the governor to use the nearly $2 billion surplus to eliminate the opportunity gaps between students from pre-K to campus and cement his legacy as the ‘Education Governor.’ ”
