On March 11, President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, which provides $1.9 trillion in fiscal relief in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Federal relief funds from the American Rescue Act
Minnesota is receiving an unprecedented $4.8 billion in rescue funds, a third of which is directed at education. This unprecedented relief package will be critical for local school districts. Our local unions are in a position to help direct the funds towards the critical investments that our members know are needed as those closest to students and most directly impacted by the pandemic.
These funds will be a significant increase from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER II) and Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER II) funds included in the December 2020 relief package.
We do not yet have district-by-district estimates for ARP dollars, but will provide estimates as soon as they are available.
