In the community
Our responsibility for preparing students for successful lives doesn’t stop at graduation. For more than 150 years, Minnesota educators have fought for the rights of all Minnesotans.
From Black Lives Matter to mandatory family leave and a living wage, we approach every social justice issue through the lens of what’s best for students and families.
Education Minnesota partners with many other local unions and advocacy groups to fight for a better Minnesota. Here are just a few of them:
- Coalition to Increase Teachers of Color in Minnesota
- Coalition for Quality Public Schools
- Minnesota Nurses Association
- Minnesota Public Interest Research Group
- North Star Policy Institute
- Service Employees International Union
- TakeAction Minnesota
- United Steelworkers
Educator of color forums
To address racial equity issues, we launched four new forums for our members of color. All Education Minnesota members are encouraged to get involved! For more information, click on the links below or contact racial equity organizer Kimberly Colbert at firstname.lastname@example.org or 651-292-4835.
Education Minnesota believes that strong schools are not only the result of great teachers, but strong communities. That's why you'll find many of our members volunteering at our Minnesota State Fair booth every summer, or donating their time, money and/or resources to the efforts of our Community Outreach Committee.
In February, our members raised more than $34,000 for fellow union families affected by mining layoffs through our Iron Range Food Shelf Drive!
We are stronger together. It's just that simple.
