Why get involved?

An area labor council is the umbrella organization of local unions. ALCs can be a powerful way to mobilize fellow union workers to support political, organizing and issue-oriented campaigns in your community.

Locals that work with area labor councils see results. School levies and bond referendum pass and educators negotiate better contracts when they have community support.

Southland partnered with the Southeast Area Labor Council in 2015 to get a new operating levy passed after previous efforts failed. With the hard work of the Southland members and the organizing and financial support of the Southeast ALC, voters in the Adams, Minn., area approved the levy.

St. Paul, Anoka, Minneapolis, North St Paul and numerous other districts are putting pressure on school district officials to bargain in good faith with the help of fellow union workers in their communities.
